Turkmen carpet making – in the List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Traditional Turkmen carpet making art have been included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This decision was adopted on December 12 at the 14th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Bogota.

 

 

The application of Turkmenistan was unanimously approved by representatives of the Evaluation Body of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Traditional Turkmen carpet making art has rich history and has not lost its importance even in our days. Carpets and carpet products are an integral part of culture of Turkmen people, appearing today as a result of unique talent and diligence of Turkmen women.

 

 

Earlier Turkmen national art of singing and dance “Kushtdepdi”, the national epos “Gorogly”, traditions and customs of celebration of Novruz have been included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will continue its work till December 14 and further should consider applications of 42 more countries.
