Turkmen Carpet

Turkmen rug (Turkmen carpet) is a type of handmade floor-covering textile traditionally originating in Central AsiaTurkmen carpet – is probably the most common and ancient “brand” of national traditions. For a long time, European merchants who traded with the East brought on their ships cotton, silk, wine and of course, Turkmen carpets. On the 20th of March 1993 in Ashgabat created the Turkmen Carpet Museum. Altyn Asyr carpet was made at the Baharly artistic carpet of a factory making in 2003 was entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest hand-made carpet in the world. Its area is 301 square meters, its size 14×20 meters, weight about 1.5 tones. Today the Turkmen carpet is often an element of prestige and luxury, exquisite design, it can be seen in the homes of great art lover. In 1992, Turkmen Carpet Day officially became a public national holiday, celebrated annually on the last Sunday in May.
